Happy August! I just updated my Early Work Mercantile page with a cupboard hanger I stitched and wanted to share it with you here. I adapted my little cupboard hanger from a pattern by Homespun Samplar called "The Marking Sampler" and am really pleased how it came out. I even managed to stitch one over one on half of this piece which is something I usually don't like to do but, this time, I actually had fun!
I hope you are all having a good summer. I have to confess that I am ready for autumn and have several Halloween samplers in the works. There's something about stitching pumpkins and witches that helps me keep cool :)

Thanks, Aunt Lou! In case you couldn't tell from my photos, the one over one stitching starts on the fourth row down and includes the tiny little alphabet and numbers at the bottom. I think an entire sampler made like this would be so sweet :)

This is so sweet and wonderful!! Love the colors! I am so rusty on my cross stitch and don't remember what one over one means? One thread over one thread? Do you have a good book you would recommend for getting started again, especially for a more primitive look! I did cross stitch years ago and just don't remember!!!!

Thanks for your sweet comments, Julie! Basically, one over one means you stitch with one strand of embroidery floss (instead of the usual two) into one hole of linen rather than the usual two holes. I don't know if that makes any sense but there might be some good online tutorials that can illustrate it much better than I can explain it! I have been cross stitching for SO long that I don't even remember how I learned so can't really recommend any books but I'm sure there are some good ones out there. I think the primitive look comes more with the design and the finishing rather than the actual technique. Does that help any?
